DOWNTOWN PARKADE WAYFINDING

The City of New Westminster commissioned us to design wayfinding and signage as part of an update to an existing multi-level riverside parking lot. The parkade was formerly lacked clear directional signage and didn’t reflect the updates to the surrounding area. Along with suspended and post-mounted vehicular signage, the parkade signage now employs painted structural and ground surfaces as opportunities to guide visitors toward area amenities. Designed to be affordable and bold, industrial-styled stenciled typography calls to mind the city’s waterfront heritage. The three colour palette coordinates with traffic markings, keeping the approved simple, unique to New West, and clear.

Client: City of New Westminster Location: New Westminster, BC Scope: Wayfinding strategy, signage design

The signage graphics took a simple approach, borrowing colours, typography and other icon information from existing traffic standards. Materials and forms—including aluminum printed surfaces and galvanized posts and frames—were designed to be prepared by the city sign shop.
