EXPERIENCE THE FRASER

Our team prepared wayfinding and signage guidelines for an ambitious tourism-related project called “Experience the Fraser”. Organized by Metro Vancouver in cooperation with the Fraser Valley Regional District, this project is about creating leisure access for tourists and locals along the Fraser River from Hope to the Pacific Ocean. It comprises a number of municipalities, jurisdictions, stakeholders, commercial enterprises and types of landscapes.

Client: Metro Vancouver
Location: Fraser Valley, BC
Scope: Stakeholder engagement, brand review, wayfinding signage strategy, bluewater signage strategy

The project included not only strategies for wayfinding on land but also on the water—known as blueways and bluewayfinding. We organized and conducted two workshops for multiple stakeholder groups, gathered information, wishes and concerns and prepared a flexible system using an existing graphic identity. Options for design were put in front of stakeholder groups for comment and a final set of guidelines was prepared using simple signage techniques keeping in mind both affordability, easy implementation and many existing sign systems. The final deliverable was a report, below, which is currently being implemented as signs along the route.
