10TH AVENUE HOSPITAL ZONE

The City of Vancouver and health care partners in the 10th Avenue Vancouver General Hospital precinct identified the need for wayfinding signage which would also clearly message the need to slow down and be mindful of patients. Our team worked with the City Engineering department and City of Vancouver public engagement staff to create a highly consultative approach to messaging and signage design.

Client: City of Vancouver Location: Vancouver, BC
Scope: Stakeholder engagement, site audit, wayfinding signage strategy and messaging

Working under tight timelines with up to 40 stakeholders and committees of health care policy makers we were able to steer the signage project toward a bold and yet conservative approach that immediately conveys “health care” by tying in with existing and recognizable iconography and design elements. Universal accessibility was a key driver in the development of the work. Because of the nature of the district, particular attention was paid to the legibility of signage with multiple rounds of mockup reviews in the field and consultation with the visually impaired and other patient groups.
