WILSON SCHOOL OF DESIGN

We prepared the comprehensive interior and exterior signage package for this landmark design school in Richmond, BC, Canada. The signage compliments the airy timber and glass structure and flexible building spaces in that the signage work is subtle and quiet. Our work in wayfinding takes a back seat to the vibrant colour that the design students bring to the space. In order to complete the project we consulted with the client groups, donor representatives, architects, interior designers. The material palette is simple blackened steel, stainless steel and neutral tones of acrylic with raised lettering and braille for accessibility.

Client: Kwantlen Polytechnic University Wilson School of Design Location: Richmond, BC
Architect: KPMB and PUBLIC
Scope: Interior wayfinding signage strategy and design, donor recognition, campus signage integration

The signage bridged the requirements for permanent naming recognition for Chip and Shannon Wilson with the temporal brand for the school. Our approach was to inset in stone or steel anything related to permanent recognition, and use the bright yellows of the temporal brand to tie the signage to marketing and other changeable visuals.

Materials are timeless and robust, including direct-printed and water-jet cut stainless steel as well as cast concrete.
